What is Homeopathy
The human body has its own in-built system of healing, for example after a simple cut or an injury. However, there are times when the body struggles to cope on its own and needs help. The healing ability appears to get ‘stuck’, which is when the body produces symptoms. Homeopathic remedies stimulate the body to heal itself so that the symptoms are relieved.
Homeopathy has been around for over 200 years and is widely recognised by its users as a safe, non-invasive form of medicine. Homeopathy uses the principle of similars. For example the remedy ‘Allium Cepa’, is made from the red onion and chopping onions often results in runny noses and watering eyes. Therefore, a remedy made from an onion is one of many that could assist the symptoms of hayfever or a common cold.
Homeopathic Remedies
Homeopathic remedies are made from everyday substances, diluted many times to form a very gentle yet immensely powerful remedy. Properly prescribed and used, homeopathic remedies are safe and non
toxic.
The medicines are given in either sucrose pills, or in liquid form, and may be taken in conjunction with GP prescribed medication.
Some of the benefits of the homeopathic approach
- treats a person simultaneously on a mental, physical and emotional level
- physical illness is often intrinsically linked to our mental/emotional state
- minute amounts of the active ingredient is used in a specially prepared form. Due to the way in which homeopathic medicines are prepared, when correctly prescribed, they are unlikely to cause unwanted effects and you cannot become addicted to them
- can be used alongside prescribed medication and does not interfere with it
- works well even when a medical diagnosis is vague because a wide number of factors about the individual (such as 'top to toe' health, past illnesses and accidents, food preferences, sleep patterns, parents' health, shocks/traumas etc) are considered when selecting the appropriate remedies.
